A figurehead in world football, Gérard Houllier, passed away today aged 73. Gérard was an AFDP Global Ambassador and we were proud to call him a friend.
As a professional manager, Gérard’s achievements speak for themselves, not least a cup treble for Liverpool in 2001 and leading Lyon to successive Ligue 1 titles.
Behind the titles and the success, Gérard was an outstanding ambassador for the game we all love – a true gentleman who really embodied the values of sportsmanship.
We were honoured to welcome Gérard as an AFDP Global Ambassador last year and are indebted to him for his support for our work.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Gérard’s family and friends at this difficult time. We will miss him.
